Join Cara Marie Piazza and Antonia Estela Pérez for a day of foraging, medicinal plants, and natural dyes.
We will begin the day at Bushwick Inlet Park, where Antonia will lead us up to my Greenpoint studio in a plant walk. We will be picking and learning about how we can cultivate weeds and invasive plants from our urban environment to make medicine and dyes.
Back at the studio we will have a catered and foraged lunch by the incredible Tara Norvell. We will get to know each other and our plants and create our own tinctures to take home.
For the afternoon portion of class we will learn how through gently steaming petals, we will learn how to treat fabrics to be able to take natural dyes, extract color from flowers and natural dye stuffs while experimenting with advanced floral dyeing techniques you can all do at home.
Through only a little steam you will learn to transmute assorted flowers into beautiful patterns, on your fabric. This class will also cover using natural additives to create cosmic patterns.
Take aways: A small swatch collection, a foraged medicinal tincture. New friends.
Scholarships and sliding scale available for 4 seats for POCLGBTQIA Please email and let us know why this class would be beneficial to your practice.
